Local Representatives, or Local Reps, serve as the primary contact person for students, host families, and schools. The Local rep. needs to be compassionate and patient with young people and ready to share his or her culture while learning new cultural perspectives.

Local Rep's Basic Duties Include:
-Recruit host families.
-Interview and evaluate each prospective host family in their home before student placements are finalized.
-Organize a pre and post orientation with the host family.
-Contact schools and arrange student enrollment.
-Maintain frequent contact with student, family and school.

Local reps generally are motivated individuals who enjoy working with new and exciting people in the field. Involvement with their community is a common trait of local representatives.

Advertising is encouraged in local newspapers or flyers can be placed in schools, libraries and churches.

Local reps are paid to place students, but many have another job.
Common places to find host families: Friends/Families, Schools, Church/Temple, Recreation Centers, Clubs, and Children Sports Teams.
